South Carolina State Senator John Courson, a Marine Corps veteran and a long time ConservAmerica member, was recently elected by his senate colleagues as Senate Pro Tempore, the leader of the Palmetto State’s Senate.
Senator Courson is a strong fiscal conservative and has been in the South Carolina Senate for 27 years. He refers to himself as a traditional Republican and often speaks of his strong support for Ronald Reagan with whom his political philosophy is similar. He was twice elected as a Reagan delegate to the GOP national convention and has served twice as a member of the Electoral College.
Warren Thompkins, a prominent South Carolina Republican political strategist has said of Courson, “ he is on the cutting edge of Republicans sensitive to the environment”. Courson himself spends a lot of time outdoors and says that‘s how he learned a respect for nature. He believes strongly that conservation is truly conservative.
In 2009, Senator Courson appeared in a television ad in support of Republican Senator Lindsey Graham’s efforts to diversify the U.S. energy markets. (Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFSLKK_NpFI&feature=player_embedded)
